A MESSAGE FROM DR. MITZNER
It is hard to believe that this is the last update for our third school year. We are sending off our first group of students that started at TJH as 6th graders!
Thank you for being a part of the TJH community! I know that some of you are leaving us because your child is headed to OTHS and some of you are going to other schools. Know that we have enjoyed the journey with you.
At the end of the update and on the website (Click here), we have all our 2019-2020 dates.
For the last day of school, we ask for your child NOT to bring a backpack. They just need their items for their exam.
Unfortunately, we have had some students that have thrown paper and even bicycles into the water drainage ditch next to the school. Please let your child know that this something that is not only bad for the environment and your MUD, but it could be considered a criminal offense.
Know that I am honored to serve as the principal of Tays Junior High. Your children inspire me and give me hope for the future!

IMPORTANT: 6TH GRADE PARENTS
The State of Texas requires specific immunizations for all 7th graders. The vaccines required, are the TDaP Booster, Meningococcal (1 dose AFTER age 10) and Varicella (2 doses). You will receive a notification, in the mail, if your student needs any vaccinations. Students must have these vaccinations (or Reasons of Conscience) before the start of 7th grade. Please feel free to email me, if you want to check on your student’s status.

SHAW CENTER YOUNG INVENTORS SUMMER CAMP
The Robert R. Shaw Center for STEAM will be hosting a “Young Inventors of America” summer camp for students entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grade next school year. The camp will be held July 8-11, and the cost is $110. Parents can register in My Payments Plus. The purpose is to promote student interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.

WELCOME CLASS OF 2023! OTHS NEW FALCON CAMP 2019
Monday, August 5, 2019 Program begins promptly at 9am - 11am
Students can begin arriving at 8:30 am. Drop off and pick up will be OTHS Main Entrance.
Class of 2023 T-Shirts will be on sale for $20. A variety of Food Trucks will be open from 10:15 – 11:15 a.m. following the Camp, so come hungry!

TAYS 2019-20 PRELIMINARY PE WAIVER IDENTIFIER FORM
(This waiver is only for students who will be attending TJH 2019-20 school year.)
This form is to be completed if a student will be submitting a PE waiver in the fall. Students can turn in PE Waivers August 1, 2019 - August 16, 2019. This will allow the counselors to have the schedules ready for schedule pick up before school. PE WAIVERS WILL STILL NEED TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE COUNSELING OFFICE FOR APPROVAL. The waiver application is included below. The application can also be found on the TAYS JH Counseling website.
The United States Department of Agriculture requires that each campus notify families about the meals served each summer through the Summer Food Service Program even if the campus does not serve summer meals. The Texas Department of Agriculture provides resources to post and share with families. Soon these materials will be delivered to your front office. You will receive three posters and parent information cards. Each school is expected to display the posters immediately upon receipt. Each student should receive an information card to take home. Secondary campuses that do not have the ability to send a card to each household may want to make them accessible to parents in the front office and nurse’s office or other public areas. Share the link below on your school E News as well.
Please let your parents know that all children 18 and under can eat breakfast and/or lunch FREE; they do not have to be enrolled in summer school or a KISD student. Free breakfast and lunch will be available at: PHS, RHS, CJH, MPE, FES, RKE.

TJH BLOOD DRIVE - WE NEED YOUR HELP!!
We will be hosting a Blood Drive at Tays Junior High, on May 23 from 10am-4pm (last day of school and early dismissal)! The Blood Banks are low and blood is needed for summer! Please sign up to donate, to help your community!
To meet the needs of our community, the blood center relies on about 1,000 donations each day! Let’s help restock their shelves, as they need blood for the summer!
1 donation can save 3 lives!
1 in 7 people, entering a hospital, need blood!
1 in 7 people will need blood, at some point in their lifetime, but only 1 in 20 will donate!
Every 2 seconds, someone needs a blood transfusion!
All blood donors, in the US, must be unpaid volunteers!
14 tests are done to ensure patient safety!
Minimum age is 16, to donate
Minimum weight is 122lbs (16-18year olds) and 110lbs (19years and older)
Before your donation:
- Eat well the day before and day of your donation. Please do not donate on an empty stomach.
- Avoid fatty foods, 24hours before you donate.
- Eat iron-rich foods to boost iron (such as lean meat, fish, green leafy vegetables and iron-fortified cereal. Increasing vitamin C, will help with iron absorption
- Drink plenty of water or fruit juice the night and morning before you donate. Avoid drinking caffeinated drinks, which can cause dehydration.
- Get a good night’s sleep.
You CAN donate one week after getting a tattoo or piercing (from a licensed facility).
You CAN donate, after 48hrs of completed antibiotics and symptom free.
You CAN donate, if you have controlled high blood pressure.
