A MESSAGE FROM DR. MITZNER

Kudos to our students for collecting 1,100 cans for the Houston Food Bank! It is so awesome to see our students support others in the community. 8th graders won the contest for the most cans collected. Hanaa Layeeq, an 8th grader, went to partners in the community to single handedly collect over 900 cans. Way to go Titans!

When dropping your child in the morning, please be sure to pull forward to the cone so that we can unload as many cars as possible. In addition, I just want to make you aware that waiting with your child in the car until the doors open at 8:10am is causing a little bit of a back up in our drop off lane. Please be respectful of others and drop off so that others can pull through the drop off zone as well.

We have sent the Lost and Found link separately and we have all the items displayed in the cafeteria daily. The lost and found Link has been updated for this week. Click here to see the Lost & Found. We will be donating items this Friday, November 16th so encourage your child to collect any lost items.

I hope that you and your family enjoy your Thanksgiving break. Know that I am grateful to each of you for sharing your amazing children with us at TJH. I am honored to serve as the Principal at Tays Junior High and I grateful for all you do to support our school.

Regards,

Dr. Kris Mitzner

SPANISH FOR SPANISH SPEAKERS

This week I met with 7th grade Spanish Speaking students who are interested in taking a Spanish for Spanish speakers test on November 28th. If passed, this test allows students to enroll in Spanish for Spanish Speakers as 8th graders. During their 8th grade year, participants would earn 2 years of high school foreign language credit in only 1 year. If your child is a fluent Spanish Speaker and did not receive a letter from Tays Jr High about this opportunity, please send them to the counseling office to sign up. Remember, the test is Wednesday, November 28th.

MESSAGE FROM THE CLINIC

Staphylococcus aureus, “Staph”, is a commonly occurring bacteria that are found on the skin and in the noses of 1 out of every 3 people. Sometimes, it causes an infection, which inclues skin or wound infections, pneumonia or infections in the blood. Many “Staph” infections cause minor redness and swelling without pain.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureas, “MRSA”, is a type of “Staph” that is resistant to some of the medications that are used to treat “Staph” infections.

Washing your hands with SOAP AND WATER is one of the best ways to prevent diseases. Any opening in your skin, will increase the risk of infection. Remember to keep cuts, scraps and scratches clean, dry and covered. Do NOT share personal items, as this is also a way to spread bacteria.

COUNSELOR'S CORNER

Core Essential for November - Cooperation: Working together to do more than you can do alone.

PARENT AND VISITOR IDENTIFICATION (ID) REQUIREMENT:

One of Katy Independent School District's top priorities is the safety and well-being of our students, staff, parents and community members, who visit our campuses and facilities. This school year, Katy ISD announces additional campus safety and security measures which include:

  • All parents and visitors must now present a valid, current, government-issued picture ID outside of the main entrance at all Katy ISD campuses prior to gaining admittance. Each campus is equipped with a controlled access system that includes a camera and an intercom that parents and visitors will need to utilize when presenting their ID for entrance. To gain further access beyond the campus front lobby, individuals will again be required to present their ID to the front desk receptionist in order to be officially logged into the visitor tracking system.
  • Student Identification (ID) Badge Requirement:
Secondary students must now wear their ID badges at all times during school hours, while on district property. Students in grades PK-5 will continue to use their badges during lunch and library times. Fourth and fifth-grade students are requested to wear their badges throughout the school day. At the secondary level, failure to follow the ID badge requirement may be considered a violation of the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Campus Door Unlock Times:
Controlled access systems on campuses will now unlock main entrance doors at a set time each morning. The standard door unlock times for main entrance doors at the Junior High is 8:10 a.m.

END OF SCHOOL DAY PICK UP REQUESTS

Parents, if we could please request, that you pick up students before 3:15 pm if they have an after school appointment or event to get to. It can be difficult for us to get your students near the end of the school day and change their transportation home. As always, if you know your student will be leaving school during the day, it would be very helpful for you to send a note to school in the morning so our ADA can give them a class release for the time you will be picking them up. Thank you!

LUNCH DELIVERIES

Students and Parents, please be aware that we cannot accept lunch deliveries from restaurants or delivery services for student lunches in the front office. We just do not have the space or manpower to engage in these types of deliveries during the day. We thank you in advance for your cooperation in this regard.

LOST AND FOUND

The lost and found Link has been updated for this week. Click here to see the Lost & Found. This link never changes so you can save it to review. Please reclaim your items in the counselor's office.

Clothing items will be photographed and displayed on the Lost and found link. Clothing items can be claimed in the counseling office. The next donation date will be November 16, 2018.  Don't forget to put your name on items that you bring to school!
